Robert L. Bowser, 90, of Sumner, IL passed away Friday February 19, 2010 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL. He was born May 24, 1919 in Petrolia, PA the son of Harry E. and Margaret (Albaugh) Bowser. He was married to Opal (Biggs) Bowser. She survives. He is also survived by a son: Dennis and his wife Delores Bowser of Sumner, IL, a sister: Margaret Swauger of Hudson, FL, 2 grandchildren: Robert and his wife Amy Bowser of Albion, IL, Denise and her husband Vergil Jerrell of Greenwood, IN, and 4 great-grandchildren: Jonathan Bowser, Brendon Bowser, Jacob Jerrell, and Andrew Jerrell. Mr. Bowser was a teacher in various school districts. The last 14 years he served as Principle and Superintendant in Kell, IL.  He retired in 1977. He was a graduate of McKendry College, and earned his Masterâs Degree in Administration from the University of Illinois in 1960. He was a member of the Sandoval United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a 63 year member of the Sandoval Free Masons.The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00am at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the VFW and American Legion Members. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 until 7:00pm at the funeral home where Masonic services will be conducted at 6:30pm.
