Robert “Bob” I. Fleenor, age 89, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on August 18, 1936 in Beal, Indiana, the son of Paul and Pauline Briner Fleenor. He married Bobbye Toy in August 1970 and she preceded him in death on September 24, 2024.
Bob was a 1954 graduate of St. Francisville High School and attended Eastern Illinois University on a baseball scholarship. A talented athlete, he spent a year as a pitcher in the organization of the Baltimore Orioles. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division from 1958 to 1964.
Following his military service, Bob worked as a pipe fitter for more than 30 years, retiring in 1998 after a career distinguished by dedication, skill, and a strong work ethic. He was a member of Local 136 of Evansville, Indiana, the Lawrenceville Moose Lodge, and the Elks Lodge.
Bob enjoyed fishing and gardening. Above all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and took great pride in his family. Bob was well-known for his early morning visits to Wal-mart, picking up his lunch from the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital cafeteria, and his Sunday lunches from Alfonso’s Pizza. Bob was a devoted friend and a valued neighbor. Bob will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, playful sense of humor, and his love of teasing family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Paul Fleenor, Jr.; his sisters, Jean Vaught, Lura Durham, and Ruth Ann McClure.
Survivors include his children: Terry Cochran and husband, Brian of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Craig Gher and significant other, Lori Welton of St. Francisville, Illinois, Tracy Granzin and husband, Gary of New Braunfels, Texas, Jeff Gher and significant other, Lindsey Seyferth of Westfield, Indiana, and Robin Hudson and husband, Justin of Powell, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Matthew Pargin and wife, T.J., Brandt Cochran and wife, Lauryn, Edge Gher and wife, Devin, Kasie Childress and husband, Scott, Jenny Gilbert and husband Jack, Nathan Novsek and wife, Alison, Sydney VanDorn and husband, Carson, Lindsey Perez and husband, Oscar, Luke Gher, Chase Hudson, and Emery Hudson; and nineteen great-grandchildren and an expected great-grandchild in a few weeks; and his sister, Judy Beard of Arkansas;
Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 2:30 pm at Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Friends and family may gather from 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm at the graveside. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW. Memorial donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and Lawrenceville Hospital Endowment Fund.
