Richard ‘Rick' E. Harrington, 62, of rural Flat Rock, Illinois, passed away Friday, September 16, 2016, at his residence. He was born on March 31, 1954, in Vincennes, Indiana, the son of William Tommy and Julia A. (Foreman) Harrington. He was married to Sue Rinsch Smothers on February 5, 2000 and she survives.
Rick worked at Briggs Manufacturing in Robinson for 26-1/2 years. He also worked at Fair-Rite Products and Joule Industrial Controls prior to his illness. He loved to travel, quilt, collecting Fran Koma Pottery, and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed attending the Birds Free Methodist Church. He loved his children and grandchildren very much.
Preceding him in death were his father, Tommy; sister, Nancy Hunter; daughter, Jamie Bunch Harrington; and granddaughter, Emithy Zade.
Survivors include his mother, Julia; wife, Sue; sons, Eric Harrington and wife, Karen of Washington, Indiana, Chad Harrington and wife, Bambi, of Washington, Indiana, and Eric Smothers and wife, Kim, of New Hebron, Illinois; daughters, Kim Cunningham and husband, Robert the state of Washington, Christie Harrison and husband, Josh of Robinson, Illinois, Stacey Langley and husband, Jason, of Robinson, Illinois; adopted granddaughter, Ricki Paige Harrington at home; brothers, Bill Harrington and wife, Barb, of Annapolis, Illinois, Noble Harrington and wife, Becky, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Danny Harrington of Lawrenceville, Illinois; and twenty-two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Birds Free Methodist Church in Birds, Illinois. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will be in the Price Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Rick's memory may be made to the Ricki Paige Educational Fund. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
