Peggy J. Cordes

Peggy J. Cordes, 83, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana. She was born December 22, 1933 in Flora, Illinois, the daughter of Lawrence and Lucille (Banta) Vanwey. She married George Cordes on May 24, 1953 and he preceded her in death on October 25, 2016. Peggy worked at the Lawrenceville Greenhouse and The Gallery. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 64 years and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, George. Survivors include one son, Steve Cordes and wife, Kathy, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; daughter Lynn Grumieaux and husband, Dave, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother, Larry Vanwey and wife, Virginia, of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 3:00 PM CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Peggy's memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church Vacation Bible School Fund or the Lawrence County Senior Citizens Center.
