Opal Irene Bowser

Opal Irene Bowser, age 93, of rural Sumner, Illinois passed away Monday, August 25, 2014, at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville. Opal was born July 27, 1921, in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Merial M.(Jefferies) Biggs. She married Robert Leroy Bowser on September 7, 1941, and he passed away February 19, 2010. Opal graduated from McKendree College and went to work as a school teacher. She taught in various school districts and finished her career in Selmaville school system near Salem, Illinois. Opal was a member of Sandoval United Methodist Church. Preceding Opal in death were her parents, her husband, and three sisters. Survivors include a son, Dennis (Delores) Bowser of Sumner; two grandchildren Robert L. (Amy) Bowser and Denise (Vergil) Jerrell; and four great-grandchildren Jonathan Bowser, Brendan Bowser, Jacob Jerrell and Andrew Jerrell. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Friday at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Friday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Cresthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Sumner United Methodist Church with envelopes available through the funeral home.
