Norman L. Mccord

Norman L. McCord, age 76, of Lawrenceville passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at his residence. He was born January 13, 1935 in Evansville, IN the son of William Leon McCord and Mary Louise "Janie" Moore. He married Rosalie B. Johnson October 3,1967, to whom he was married for 43 years, and she survives. Norman worked at Hutsonville Power Station (now Ameren) until retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Vincennes, IN. Norman was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. In 1970, Norman organized the Lawrenceville Little League Football program. 55 boys would meet daily after school at the lot next to his home and practice without the conveniences of equipment. In 1971, the league joined the Southern Illinois Junior Football Conference with Norman as the head coach. In 1973, Norm's boys won the Southern Illinois Junior Football Conference with a season record of 5 wings-0 losses. Through the Little League Program, the boys were taught the fundamentals of football, discipline, sportsmanship, and leadership. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. He was also proceeded in death by his first wife Lorraine (Curry) McCord. Survivors include his wife Rosalie of Lawrenceville; four sons Ralph Jefferson and wife Connie of Shawneetown, IL, Benjamin Jefferson and wife Staci of Lawrenceville, Todd Jefferson and wife Susie of Lawrenceville, Guy G.J. Jefferson and wife Julie of Marion, IL; seven daughters Terri Mimms and husband Keith of Bridgeton, IN, Starla McCord of Bridgeport, Dena Jefferson of Equality, IL, Valerie Holbrook and husband Jim of St. Francisville, IL, Carleen McCord of Lawrenceville, Norma McCord and husband David of Carmel, IN and Regina McCord-Fithian and husband Jason of Vincennes, IN; nine brothers, Jerome Kimbrough, Tommy Kimbrough, Ronnie Johnson, Larry Johnson, and Keith Johnson all of Evansville, IN, Donnie Johnson of Indianapolis, IN, David Johnson of Carmel, IN, Michael McCord of Alexandria, VA, and Leon McCord of Nashville, TN; one sister Rosemary Hawkins of Evansville; 27 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held September 10th at noon at First Baptist Church in Vincennes. Visitation will be September 10th from 10:00AM to 12:00 noon (Illinois time) at the church.
