Norman Dean Butcher

Norman Dean Butcher, age 84, of Birds, Illinois, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at his residence. He was born June 5, 1933 in Crawford County, Illinois, the son of Earl Butcher and Edith Rich Butcher. Dean worked as a mechanic at Marathon. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a Mason and his memberships included the VFW, American Legion, and 40 & 8. He served as past Commander for the Flat Rock Legion for many years. He was also a member of the South Union Church. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Forrest. Survivors include: his best friend, Claudette Selby; children, Mark Butcher, Janet Woods, Vicki Brink, Deana Grooms, Robert Henson, and Dottie Gray; one brother, Max; one sister, Norma "Sis" Wesley; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Graveside services with military rites will be Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 2:30 p.m at the Tohill Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorial donations may be made to the donor's choice in memory of Dean. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
