Michael E. Murphy

Michael E. Murphy, 94, of rural St. Francisville, IL passed away Thursday December 26, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born November 1, 1919 in Lawrence County, IL the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Rasico) Murphy. On December 21, 1946 he married Lillian Rae Critchfield. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2012. Michael worked as a farmer, in the oil fields, AMF, the State of Illinois, and retired from the Pipefitter's Union #136 in Evansville, IN. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Survivors include two sons: David and his wife Sara Murphy of Lawrenceville, IL, Mark and his wife Cindy Murphy of Houston, TX, a daughter: Barbara Ann Hahn of Evansville, IN, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Along with his parents and wife, a daughter: Rita Westall, one brother, six sisters, and a grandchild preceded him in death. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 10:00am until the service hour of 11:00am.
