Michael was a graduate of Cathedral High School, class of 72’. He attended Depauw University, as well as Indiana University Indianapolis, obtaining a Bachelor’s of Medical Science. He worked as a Medic in Indianapolis (Wishard Hospital) for over 24 years, finishing his career in the ER of Wishard as an attending nurse. Once retired, he and Wife, Dawn Acton, were Hosts and Managers of Lutherwood Camp Ground (Utah), for the Lutheran Church.
Michael was an athlete, coach, and official for the entirety of his life, and loved all athletics with an absolute passion. In those moments, he affected and mentored scores of young men and women throughout many communities.
Though a wonderful man, admired and loved by most all he encountered, there are some noteworthy moments that remind us we’re all human.
Michael Heim once “streaked” the actual pavement of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during a rain delay at the Indianapolis 500 (no criminal charges incurred). And, he once “lost” his 2 3/4-year-old son at the Indianapolis 500 (original snake pit) for approximately seven hours (1981).
An amazing man, father, friend, and citizen. Thank you for all you gave to each of us, the times and experiences shared, you are missed abundantly. Love you, see you soon!
A Celebration of Life will be conducted Saturday, February 08, 2025, from 1:00p.m. until 6:00 p.m. EST at the VFW HALL (VETERAN of FOREIGN WARS), located at 5139 West 10th Street in Speedway, Indiana 46224.
