Melvin Powell, 97, of Lawrenceville passed away Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the United Methodist Village North Campus in Lawrenceville. He was born July 4, 1911, in Stewardson, IL, the son of Doris and Amanda (Rozene) Powell. He married Melita (Bair) Powell on August 31, 1935.Melvin was a self-employed interior designer and painter. He also worked at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville and was a member of the American Legion and VFW. Melvin was an Army veteran, having served during WWII.Melvin is survived by his wife, Melita; a son Jeffery Powell of Bloomington, IN; a daughter Carolyn Shannon of Columbus, IN; one sister; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.He was preceded in death by his parents.There are no funeral services scheduled.
