Melvin McCullough, age 72, of rural Lawrenceville, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville. He was born April 17, 1937 in Indiana, the son of Owen Doyle and Marjorie Irene (Rumley) McCullough. He married Marilyn York January 5, 1957 and she died February 19, 1992.Melvin was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sumner. He owned and operated McCullough Body Shop. He also started and operated Hope for Tomorrow.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and one sister.Survivors include three sons Hiram Abiff (Carmen) McCullough of rural Flat Rock, Doyle (Rose) McCullough of Lawrenceville, and Danny McCullough of rural Lawrenceville; one daughter Cheryl (Tom) Green of Lawrenceville; four brothers Richard McCullough of Lawrenceville, Jesse McCullough of OFallon, MO, John McCullough of Brazil, IN, and Gene McCullough of OFallon, MO; two sisters Mary Schultz of Sumner and Kay Hansman of Carmi, IL; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.A graveside service will be held Monday, April 5, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Chauncey Cemetery. There will be no visitation.Memorials may be made to SWAN with envelopes available through the funeral home.
