Melissa Jo Monk

Melissa Jo Monk, 46, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born June 19, 1970, the daughter of Robert Colborn, Sr. and Marilyn (Hess) Martin. She married Robert Anthony ‘Tony' Monk on May 3, 1997 and he survives. Melissa graduated from Mt. Carmel High School, Wabash Valley Jr. College, and Southern Illinois University. She was a physical therapy assistant and developmental therapist at Developmental Specialists of Southern Illinois in Olney, Illinois. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Survivors include her parents, Robert Colborn and his wife, Ann, of Marion, Illinois and Marilyn Martin and her husband, Gary, of Robinson, Illinois; her husband, Tony; her step-son, Anthony Joseph Monk of Terre Haute, Indiana; brother, Robert ‘Bobby' Colborn, Jr. of Goreville, Illinois; nieces, Ashley, Aubree, and Kiesty; and special family members, Bob Garner and Machelle Lyell. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Melissa's wishes were for everyone to wear something blue.
