Mary Carol Sumner

Mary Carol Sumner, age 91, of Sumner, IL passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. Born April 7, 1920 in Lawrence County, IL she was the daughter of William and Mary Emily (Keplinger) Berkshire. Carol worked as a bookkeeper at First National Bank in Sumner for 10 years and was a homemaker. Prior to this, she worked in Chicago at the Motion Picture Bureau and worked at a doctor's home in Silver Creek, NY. She was the organist in the Chauncey church since age 16. She also taught Sunday School. Carol enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Carol was a member of the Chauncey Garden Club and the Eagles Auxiliary. Carol was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry Wilcox; her second husband, Joe Sumner, one son Jerry Wilcox; one brother, one sister, and one grandson. Survivors include one sister Maxine Weston, seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Private services will be held. The body was cremated. Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
