Mary 'Edith' Smith

Mary ‘Edith' Smith, 95, of rural Sumner, Illinois passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born March 15, 1923 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Oliver and Mary (Glaizer) Miles. She married Robert J. Smith on February 2, 1939 and he preceded her in death on July 31, 2002. Edith was a farmwife. She was a member of the Bethany Christian Church, where she played the piano for 50 plus years. She enjoyed quilting, painting, gardening, cooking, and baking. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Robert; 12 brothers and sisters; and son, Joe. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Betty Smith of rural Sumner, Illinois; two grandsons, Gregory (Elaine) Smith and Randy (Janette) Smith all of rural Sumner, Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Robert (Brooke) Smith, Rachel (Justin) Adams, Justin (Shelby) Smith, and Clayton Smith; and three great-great-grandchildren, Sophie Smith, Ella Smith, and Ava Adams. Funeral services will be Monday, July 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Charlottesville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Edith's memory may be made to the Oblong Children's Christian Home.
