Marie Martin

Marie Julia Harriett Leah Martin (Reedy), age 95 of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 at United Methodist Village-North Campus. She was born November 17, 1916 in Kinmundy, IL the daughter of William and Otia (Johnston) Knight. She married Robert C. Martin and he passed away in 1989. Marie was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, IL. Her most treasured talent was the ability to sing and play musical instruments. She was a member of the senior band of Lawrenceville, called the Ding-A-Lings. She loved crafts, making quilts, playing her instruments, but most of all she loved growing her flowers in the garden. She enjoyed life and served the Lord. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, one son William Francis Martin, four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include one son Loel Martin (Shirley) of Lawrenceville; five daughters Jill Smith (Bill) of Vincennes, IN, Dixie Porter (Don) of Lawrenceville, Bonnie VanCleave (David) of Crawfordsville, IN, Bobbie McCammon (Ray) of St. Cloud, FL, and Feona York (Bob) of Gonzales, LA; 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at May Chapel Cemetery with burial to follow. There will be no visitation. Memorial donations may be made to the Activity Department at United Methodist Village-North Campus. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville is in charge of the arrangements.
