Margaret Applegate (Glover) Warner, 87, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at her home in Lawrenceville, IL where she had lived for nearly 60 years.
The daughter of Karl Andrew and Eliza Applegate Glover, who preceded her in death, Margie was born in Vincennes and grew up in Lawrenceville. In 1943, she graduated from LTHS. After high school, she attended National College of Education in Evanston, IL. There she received her teaching degree in early childhood education.
After WWII, Margie was engaged to Ward K. Warner who had returned home from the war in Europe. Their mothers had been friends throughout childhood and their adult lives. Margie and Ward were married July 11, 1947, at the Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville. Their marriage was blessed with being together for 64 years. They started their married life in Tulsa, OK where Margie was a pre-school teacher while Ward attended the university.
They returned to Lawrenceville for Ward to work at the Peoples National Bank and to start their family. Margie became active in the Presbyterian Church and was a life-long contributing member. "Margie Warner Sunday" was celebrated in April, 2007 recognizing her as the longest living member of the church, 68 years. She was involved in the women's group, taught Sunday school and was an elder. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood. Her work as a group leader with the Campfire Girls helped promote girls' self-esteem, self-awareness and education.
Margie embraced the joy in life and shared her joy, her love, her generosity and her compassion with her family, her friends and with those that were fortunate to know her. She loved music, singing and dancing. Fun and fellowship were part of her DNA, whether at bridge club, a neighborhood cookout, boating on the river, days at the lake or country club, going to the movies, a play, out to dinner or swimming at the pool. Margie's spirit was filled with life. She and Ward loved the adventure of traveling abroad and trips to visit family. Later in life, her pool was her summer oasis, a book in her hand or floating on her raft.
Margie was a dedicated, ever-loving daughter, niece, sister and sister-in-law. She was a loving, committed and adored wife. She was a blessing to her children, a very special and cherished mother. Margie, known as Meme by her five grandsons, was a playful, fun-loving, adoring and proud grandmother. She was a treasure of an aunt to her nephew and nieces. Friendship was central to her being, always a caring, faithful and dear friend.
