Lois Marie Sanders Cummins, 85, of Sumner, IL passed away on September 23, 2011, at Richland Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved mother of Michael Cummins (wife Jan), Sumner, IL and Patricia Cummins Franklin (husband Steve), Charleston, IL.
Lois was born August 2, 1926 to Thoburn Sanders and Leona Roberts Sanders in Lawrenceville. She married Gene Cummins February 28, 1947. He passed from this earth March 24, 2002.
In addition to her children, Lois was blessed with grandsons Bryan Cummins (wife Darla), Olney, IL and Doug Cummins (wife Nancy), Fishers, IN. Great-grandchildren include Kylee, Morgan, and Garrett Cummins of Olney.
Lois worked during the war in the Suttle manufacturing company to help the war effort. She was part of the Sunshine Girls Trio and played her guitar and sang with her sister Kathryn and Genelle Ulrich at area events.
Besides her deep and abiding love of family, she supported her church family, Beulah United Methodist Church and was a member of the Beulah United Methodist Women. At the time of her death, she was one of the oldest members of the congregation.
During her lifetime, she served as 4-H leader and sponsor. She was an accomplished seamstress and her needlework was exquisite.
Besides her husband, Gene, mother and father, her sister Kathryn Lathrop, her nephew David Cummins, her niece Ruth Ann Moore; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be Monday, 10:00 AM at Beulah United Methodist Church south of Sumner.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner.
Burial in Cresthaven Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association or the Beulah United Methodist Parsonage Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
