Linda Sue Schmitt

Linda Sue Schmitt, age 79, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at her granddaughter’s residence in Olney, Illinois. She was born on January 02, 1945 in Illinois, the daughter of Harold ‘Whitey’ Meek and Clarence ‘Red’ and Lorene (Lackey) Spangler.

Linda was the co-owner of Schmitt Distributing in Lawrenceville, and a volunteer at the United Methodist Village. She attended the St. James Episcopal Church in Vincennes. Her hobbies included shopping, watching Jeopardy, sitting on her porch and watching the birds, having lunch with her friends, as well as caring for her grandchildren. For many years, she enjoyed attending horse races with Pudd. She will be remembered by her family and friends for being a sweet, caring, kind, generous, and loving person.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Larry Meek; one son, Mark Schmitt; and companion, Paul ‘Pudd’ Emmons.

Survivors include one son, Ray Schmitt of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one daughter-in-law, Stacy Schmitt of Kentucky; five grandchildren, Rebecca Schmidt and husband, Tyler, Candace Schmitt, Ezra Schmitt, John Schmitt, and Gracie Schmitt; and four great-great-grandchildren, Aiden Schmitt, Aubree Ferguson, Ranger Thomas, and Rydell Thomas.

A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, May 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Monday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM CDT at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
