Letha D. Griggs

Letha D. Griggs, age 90, of Bridgeport, IL, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Lawrence Community Healthcare Center in Bridgeport. She was born March 10, 1922 in Lawrenceville, IL, the daughter of Clyde and Bertha (Jones) Harvey. She married Bernie Griggs and he preceded her in death. Letha was a homemaker who also worked at the Lawrenceville Senior Citizens for over 20 years. She attended Lawrenceville Free Methodist Church for over 50 years. Letha enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Preceding Letha in death were her parents; her husband, Bernie; one daughter, Anne Nassar; one step-daughter, Virginia Sanders; three step-sons, George Griggs, Fred Griggs, and Bernard Griggs; one brother Clyde Harvey, Jr.; one sister, Mildred Stoekl; two granddaughters; two grandsons; and one great-grandson. Survivors include three sons, Bernie Joe (Kathy) Griggs of Bridgeport, IL, Roger Griggs of Lawrenceville, IL and Mark (Barbara) Griggs of Lawrenceville, IL; four daughters, Emma Deckard of Lawrenceville, Gloria (Jerry) Goff of Jasper, IN, Gaye (Greg) Abel of Vincennes, IN and Jerrie (Kenny) Owens of Vincennes, IN; 35 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Tuesday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Sumner City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lawrenceville Senior Citizens or the Activities Department at the Lawrence Community Healthcare Center in Bridgeport with envelopes available through the funeral home.
