Leona A. ‘Snooks' Smith, 72, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospice in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born July 26, 1944 on the family farm south of Sumner, Illinois, the daughter of Troy Olin and Florence Ida (Jones) Brian. She married Robert W. Smith on August 7, 1964 and he passed away on September 19, 2011. ‘Snooks' worked as a secretary for 3 Star Drilling for 12 years. She also worked for Railroad Salvage in Sumner, Illinois, as a waitress for the Sumner Restaurant, and was a homemaker. She was affiliated with the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She enjoyed crafting, building bird houses, gardening, and canning. She was an avid Cubs, Bears, and Bulls fan. Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother, Clifford ‘Dog' Brian. Survivors include her daughter, Julie Anne Smith of Sumner, Illinois; brother, Troy ‘Wayne' Brian and his wife, Mary, of Mesa Lake, Illinois; sister, Lola ‘Jean' Bell and her husband, Mike, of Edinburg, Illinois; aunt, DeMova Jones of Sumner, Illinois; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 1:30 PM at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be Friday, August 26, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in ‘Snooks' memory may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society and Good Samaritan Hospice.
