Leah Alene Ferguson

October 26, 1918 — September 25, 2016

Leah Alene Poland Ferguson passed into Eternity on Sunday Morning, September 25, 2016 at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. Leah was born at home in Petty Township on October 26, 1918, the seventh child of Oliver Glen Poland and Susan Estella Akers Poland. She married Charles E. Ferguson and he preceded her in death in October 1991. Also preceding her in death were her siblings: Eugene Poland, Geneva Spillman, Sherman Poland, Vera Poland, LaVange Stallard, Winona Krick, Vivian Kemper and Arva Smith. Leah grew up in the Island Free Methodist Church and was baptized in the Baptist Church of Oblong. Survivors include her children: Karen Bogenschutz of Bridgeport, IL, Cheryl (James) Patton of Evansville, IN, Aaron (Tess) Ferguson of Sumner, IL, along with grandchildren: Kimberly (Ron) Reese, Kevin (Dana) Parker, Zachary (Glorie) Bogenschutz, Justin (Leah) Patton, Charity (Bryan) Havill and great-grandchildren: Hayden Reese, Grant Reese, Alli Parker, Alexander Parker, Micah Patton, Miriam Patton, Elise Patton, Parker Havill, Presley Havill, Ella Bogenschutz and Lia Bogenschutz. Reading, sketching, singing and spending time with her family were Leah's more beloved activities. A gentle soul, she fed hummingbirds from her hand, took long peaceful walks, memorized myriad passages from her Bible, and loved poetry of Robert Frost, Henry David Thoreau and books by Corrie ten Boom and Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Given the choice of being in the house or outdoors, she would usually choose the latter. Spring flowers and new growth inspired her, but the Fall harvest endeared her to love the land. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13 The funeral will be Thursday September 29, 2016 at 11:00am at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, IL. with Pastor Adam Strauser officiating. Visitation is also Thursday from 10:00am until the service hour of 11:00am. Burial will be at the Petty Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to the Island Free Methodist Church.
