Laura Ward Martin

Laura Ward Martin, age 85, of Bridgeport, Illinois passed away Friday, November 01, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. She was born March 04, 1934 in Edgewood, Kentucky, the daughter of William B. and Edith (Baker) Smither. She married Ralph E. Ward and he preceded her in death. She married Max L. Martin on April 29, 1971 and he preceded her in death on December 28, 2006. Laura worked at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, owned and operated a tax preparation business for a number of years, and was a Life Line coordinator. Her memberships included Shiloh Baptist Church, Christian Women's Club, United Way, Girl Scouts, and St. LaBre Indian School. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ralph; husband, Max; son-in-law, David Morris; one brother; and one sister. Survivors include her children, Ben Williams of Corydon, Indiana, Denise Ward Morris of Bridgeport, Illinois, and Ralph Ward and wife, Gretchen, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 4:00 PM at the Shiloh Baptist Church. A visitation will be on Tuesday from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the church. Memorial donations may be to the Lawrence County Humane Society. Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
