Judith K. Schoffstall, age 82, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away Monday, April 20, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born June 6, 1943, in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Ernest Barrett and Helen Shoulders Barrett. She married Freddie A. Schoffstall on December 31, 1962, and they had two children, Lori and Steve.
Judith was a devoted and hardworking woman who dedicated many years of service as a legal secretary at Strange Law Office. She also worked briefly in the County Clerk’s Office and assisted several attorneys throughout the area, earning a reputation for her professionalism and reliability. A woman of strong faith, Judith was a member of the First Methodist Church on 12th Street in Lawrenceville. She was also active in her community as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Judith found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved flower gardening, fishing, camping, shopping, and traveling, embracing every opportunity to be outdoors or spend time with loved ones. An avid animal lover, she had a special place in her heart for all creatures. Above all, Judith cherished her family, sharing a particularly close and meaningful bond with her grandson, great-grandson, and the rest of her family, who will treasure her memory always.
Preceding Judith in death were her parents and siblings, Paul D. Barrett, Billy Barrett, Delores Knepper, Margaret McClintock, Shirley Kromen, Carolyn Newson, and Helen Pierce.
Survivors include: children, Lori Stultz of Lawrenceville and Steven L. (Sherry) Schoffstall of Newnan, Georgia; grandchild, Lane (Arica) Stultz; great-grandson, Arthur Stultz; her fiancé, Ancil Roark; and her little dog, Winston.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Judith by Dr. Ahmed and his staff, as well as the dedicated team at Charles Ford Hospice. Their support and attention brought comfort and peace during a difficult time and will always be deeply appreciated.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 23, 2026, 3:00 p.m. at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. till the service hour of 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
