Joseph B. Vangilder

Joseph Vangilder, age 74, of St. Francisville, IL passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011 at his residence. Born January 11, 1937, he was the son of Wendell I. and Maurine (Brian) Vangilder. Joe worked with his father who owned Builders Supply Lumber Company. He owned and operated Vangilder Oil Properties and he was a production oil superintendent for ECUS. Joe also owned and operated Mustang Heaven and was the owner of Mustang Oil Company. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrenceville. Joe served for many years and was a former Fire Chief for the St. Francisville Fire Department before being a co-founder in 1960 of Denison Fire Protection District where he was the first fire chief for the Denison Protection Fire District. Joe was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his chosen family Rick, Brenda, Josh and Drew Stangle of St. Francisville; a step-brother John Throckmorton and wife Martha of Huntley, IL, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Francisville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Francisville Senior Citizens.
