John C. "Jack" Ortman, age 92, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, entered into eternal rest on June 23, 2013, at United Methodist Village North Campus.
He was born November 9, 1920, in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He was the son of Casper J. Ortman and Elizabeth W. (Hansen) Ortman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ervin, and his sister, Malvern.
On July 9, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy and worked as an Aviation Electrician's Mate First Class. He was honorably discharged on October 24, 1945.
On August 18, 1942, he married June T. Niemela. She passed away January 30, 2000. Later, he married Denise M. Brusseau. She passed away on May 15, 2012.
Jack was an original investor and shareholder of Suttle, a manufacturing division of CSI-Communications Systems, Inc., Hector, Minnesota. He was Executive Vice President of Sales until his retirement in 1986. During his tenure with the company, Suttle accomplished both domestic and international success. He continued to serve as a special consultant to the CSI Board of Directors before being elected as a director in 1990. In 1999, he retired as a director and was retained as an Honorary Board Member. Throughout his career and retirement, he enjoyed memberships in the Independent Telephone Association, the Pioneer Telephone Association, and Roadrunner's International.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, the Lawrence County Country Club, Elks, and American Legion. He was a good family man and enjoyed golf, fishing, and tennis.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Terry Jon Ortman, DDS (Rita), Godfrey, IL and James Lee Ortman R. Ph. (Alisa), Winston-Salem, NC and a daughter, Jacqueline "Jay" Creech (Jim), Lawrenceville, IL; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful to Dr. Ramsaran, the medical professionals at the United Methodist Village North Campus, and Good Samaritan Hospice. Thank you for your compassionate care and support.
Funeral services are from Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. On June 29, 2013, visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville, IL. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM with Fr. Bernardine Nganzi officiating.
Military rites and burial will follow at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or Lawrence County Cancer Resource Center and Wig Bank.
