James 'Sam' Potts

James E. ‘Sam' Potts, 98, of Bridgeport, IL passed away Thursday July 12, 2018 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, IL. He was born August 16, 1919 in St. Francisville, IL, the son of Howard and Beatrice (Shaffer) Potts. He married Beulah Reisinger on February 8, 1941 and she preceded him in death in March 16, 1995. Sam retired in 1978 from Marathon Pipe Line. He served in the United States Army during World War II. His memberships included the First Christian Church of Bridgeport, Masonic Lodge 386, Bridgeport Moose, Lawrenceville Elks, and the 40&8 Club. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and The American Legion. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Beulah; a son, Gene; two brothers, Harold and William; and four sisters, Bernetha, Dorothy, Alice, and Eva. Survivors include one son, Eldon Ray Potts and his wife Sue of Joplin, MO; two daughters, Charlene Moore of Decatur, IL and Karla Sue Douglas of Miami, FL; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Masonic Rites will be conducted Saturday July 14, 2018 at 1:00pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Funeral services will immediately follow. Visitation will also be Saturday from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites.
