James E. 'Cheese' Hart

James E. ‘Cheese’ Hart, age 79, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on April 04, 1943 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Wendell ‘Wink’ and Dorothy M. (Tomlinson) Hart. He married Rose Tooley on August 30, 2015, and she survives.

James served his country in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. He worked for the city of Sweetwater, Texas. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Rose; two children, Mark Hart of Abilene, Texas and Shawna Carranco of Dayton, Texas; four step-children, Heather Ajayi of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Patricia Graves of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Roger McCoy, Jr. of Davenport, Iowa, and Jamie Cartmill and husband, Roe of Carmi, Illinois; one brother, Robert ‘Coon’ Hart of Sumner, Illinois; one sister, Bobbi Hart Walka and husband, Chris of Bridgeport, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Raymond Hull and wife, Erica of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Velma Kessler and husband, Lane of Oblong, Illinois; five grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 1:00 PM CST at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Chauncey Cemetery, with military rites. Memorial donations may be made to the Lawrenceville VFW, the Lawrenceville American Legion, or a Veteran’s Organization of the donor’s choice.
