Imogene Shaffer, age 93, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013, at United Methodist Village-North Campus. She was born August 3, 1920, in Pinkstaff, Illinois, the daughter of Peter W. and Amanda (Mills) Cummins. She married Philip F. "Skillet" Shaffer on July 15, 1939, and he died December 15, 1978.
Imogene was a homemaker. She was an active member of Pinkstaff United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a bible school teacher, and was active in the Women's Society. She and her husband "Skillet" were sponsors of MYF and served as chaperones for the youth group at church camp for many years. Imogene was a charter member of Home Extension, was an active member of AARP where she served as an officer, was a Gray Lady volunteer at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital and a Red Cross volunteer during which time she donated over 10 gallons of blood.
Preceding Imogene in death were her parents, her husband, and three brothers Pete, Grant and Paul Cummins; and one sister Opal Childress.
Survivors include one son, Keith Shaffer (Susan) of Springfield, Illinois; three daughters, Jeanne Kay Brinkman of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Phyllis (Tom) Fehrenbacher of Olney, Illinois and Karen (Donnie) Thatcher of Spencer, Indiana; one brother Bill (Donna) Cummins of Port Charlotte, Florida; one sister-in-law Thelma Cummins of Lawrenceville, Illinois; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM Saturday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Derr Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Pinkstaff United Methodist Church or Good Samaritan Hospice with envelopes available through the funeral home.
