Howard Sherman Balding, age 81, of Vincennes, IN (formerly of Lawrenceville) passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 3:35 p.m. in Vincennes, IN. He was born August 25, 1930 in Albion, IL, the son of Sherman Howard and Carmen Maxine (Rigg) Balding. He married Rosa Jeannette Shaffer September 3, 1954 and she survives.
Howard was retired from Texaco Refinery and was also retired from the Illinois National Guard. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during the Korean War. His memberships included Texaco Union OCAW #7368, American Legion and the Lawrenceville Rod and Gun Club.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Robert Donald, Allen Joe, Marion Wayne and William Dennis and one stillborn sister.
Survivors include his wife Rosa Jeannette; one son Kirk Howard Balding of Centralia, IL; two daughters Kathryn Dale Balding of Lawrenceville and Kimberly Kay Todd and her fiance' Michael D. Wilson of Vincennes, IN; as well as one grandchild Taylor Mae Todd.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM (CST) Thursday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Burial in Derr Cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM (CST) Wednesday at the funeral home.
