Herbert D. Ross, 91, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Friday February 26, 2016 at the United Methodist Village North Campus in Lawrenceville, IL.   Born November 7, 1924 in Illinois, he was the son of Vernice Alva and Melva (Fitzgerald ) Ross. On April 30, 1948 he married Lois Gardner. She survives. Herbert worked at the Texaco Refinery as an insulator for 50 plus years. He was affiliated with the Lawrenceville Free Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion. He was an avid Lawrenceville sports fan. He loved fishing. Along with his wife Lois, he is survived by a daughter: Barbara Garnam of Phoenix, AZ, a brother: Marvin Poland and his wife Carole of Washington, IN, two grandchildren: Wendy Reed, April Stiffler, six great-grandchildren: Jessica Ryan, Toni Ryan, Brandy Reed, Jacob Reed, Simone Stiffler, Zack Stiffler, and a great-great-grandchild: Jemma Brewster. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister: Mary Hedge. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Petty Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the VFW and the American Legion. Visitation is also Tuesday from 11:00 until the service hour of 1:00pm at the funeral home.
