Helen M. Hanson, 74, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away May 20, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born, August 11, 1939 in Garden City, Missouri, the daughter of Harley Stumpff, Sr. and Emma Louise (Hunt) Stumpff. She married William M. "Bill" Hanson on July 16, 1961, in Independence, Missouri. Helen graduated from Raytown High School in Raytown, Missouri in 1957. She worked for the Kroger Company from 1959-1961; served as the Activity Director for the United Methodist Village from 1976-1985 and from 1985 until their retirement in 2000, she and her husband Bill owned and operated Communication Products. After retirement, she and Bill traveled and helped start the program known as "Kids Shopping Day" where she served as Past President. Helen was a member of Central Christian Church in Lawrenceville. Preceding Helen in death were her parents and three sisters Lillian, Mary Louise and Rosalie. Survivors include her husband: William M. "Bill" Hanson of Lawrenceville; two sons: William M. Hanson II and wife Kimberly of Indianapolis, Indiana and G. Anders "Andy" Hanson and wife Amy of Evansville, Indiana; one brother: Harley Stumpff, Jr. and wife Margaret of Freeport Texas; seven grandchildren, Hannah (Doug) Rutledge, Quinlin Hanson, Jill Hanson, Calvin Hanson, Mark Hanson, Ross Hanson, and Tess Hanson one great-grandchild Milo Rutledge, and two close nieces Carolyn Tuttle and Linda Mae Bradbury. The family would like to extend their appreciation for the compassion demonstrated towards Helen by Good Samaritan Hospice and her caregivers. As per Helen's wishes, her body will be cremated with a private burial. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Central Christian Church in Lawrenceville. Following the service, visitation and continued celebration of life will be held at Central Christian Church Activity Center from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kids Shopping Day or Central Christian Church.
