Harold ‘Pete’ Provines

Harold “Pete” Provines, age 89, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024 at the Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on December 30, 1934 in Sumner, Illinois, the son of John and Edna (Slunaker) Provines. He married Marlene Shaffer on March 05, 1971, and she survives.

Pete retired from Victor Dana, after thirty plus years. He served his country in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War. He was a member of the IAMAW Machinist Union. He attended the Pinkstaff United Methodist Church. His hobbies include fishing, gardening, knife collecting, and bird watching. His children will remember him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His famous quote and goal in life was to “Be a good neighbor”.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Provines.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; three children, Pam (Gary) Keasling of Robinson, Illinois, David (Marie) Cowden of Bourbonnais, Illinois, and Leah (Adam) Herring of Evansville, Indiana; two sisters, Shirley Cox of Moweaqua, Illinois and Vannie Hickey of Greenville, Illinois; four grandchildren, Hank Bradberry, Thomas Cowden, Andrew Cowden, and Christian Stultz; as well as four great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 02, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. CDT at the funeral home. A private burial will be conducted at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
