Glenn D. Heckler

Glenn D. Heckler, 59, of Olney (formerly of Lawrenceville) passed from this earthly life on Friday, April 3, 2009 at the Richard Roudebush Veterans Medical Center, Indianapolis, IN.Mr. Heckler was born June 24, 1949 in Olney, IL the son of William E. and Eunice E. (Claxton) Heckler.  He was married to Pamella Hodges December 16, 1967.Mr. Heckler was a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army with the infantry in the 23rd Americal Division, stationed in Chu Lai, South Vietnam.Mr. Heckler worked at the former Texaco refinery in Lawrenceville; he worked for Covanta Energy in Indianapolis, IN and Derwood, Maryland, retiring in 2003.  Mr. Heckler was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He also had dual membership at the Free Methodist Church in Bridgeport, IL and the Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem, IL.Survivors include his wife Pamella; daughter Glenna (Matthew) Todt; three granddaughters Madeleine Elaine, Kathleen Mary, and Trinity Elizabeth Todt of Landsdale, PA.  He is also survived by one brother Robert P. (Patricia) Heckler of Bridgeport; sisters Mary (Howard) Green of Palestine, Lavada (James ) Smith of West Salem, Lois (King) Sutton of Paris and Jeanette Oliver and Bill Hitt of Vincennes, IN.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.Mr. Heckler was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John, Ralph, Donald, Boyd T. and Gerald Heckler; and sisters YuVaughn Montoney and Genell Miller.  He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Grace Todt.Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, April 7 at 11:00 am with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, 1303-12th Street, Lawrenceville, IL with internment to follow in the Zion Cemetery south of Lawrenceville.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made through the funeral home to both Zion United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville and Zion United Methodist Church of West Salem.
