George W. Cordes

George W. Cordes, 91, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the United Methodist Village North Campus. He was born November 9, 1924 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Miriam (Daily) Cordes. He married Peggy Vanwey on May 24, 1953 and she survives. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 37 years and was an Army veteran. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, the American Legion, and the VFW. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife, Peggy; son, Steve Cordes and wife, Kathy, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; daughter Lynn Grumieaux and husband, Dave of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, October 28, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery with military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in George's memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
