Franklin T. Buttermore, age 93, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away February 3, 2011 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville. He was born November 6, 1917 in Painesville, OH the son of Provience and Edith (Pickle) Buttermore. He married Pauline M. Polly Peppers March 5, 1943 and she passed away November 11, 1998.Frank was a Veteran, having served 30 years in the Air Force and retired as a Lt. Colonel. During these years of service, he accumulated 16,000 hours of flight time. In the early 1940s, he worked at George Field Airport, as a B-29 pilot flight instructor. Frank served during WWII, when he flew B-17 and B-29 planes. During the Korean Conflict, he flew KC-135 tanker planes and during the Vietnam War, he flew supply planes into Vietnam.Frank and his wife Polly owned and operated Ada Lee Candy Store for many years, which was located on the west side of the square in Lawrenceville. He served on Mid-American Air Center board for 30 years and was a five-time chairman of this board between 1977 and 2006. Frank also founded the Lawrenceville-Vincennes Airport Development Foundation Fund.Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Polly, one brother James Buttermore, and one sister Grace Klingensmith.Survivors include several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.Burial will be in Lawrenceville City Cemetery with full military rites.Memorials can be made to Lawrenceville-Vincennes Airport Development Foundation Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
