Floyd A. Mitchell, age 65, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville. He was born May 24, 1948, in Carbondale, Illinois, the son of Norman A. and Viola (Murray) Mitchell. He married Patricia "Pat" Elder on August 31, 1971.
Floyd was a retired auto mechanic. He previously worked at Roadmaster as a specs builder and designer. He also worked as an x-ray tech on oil and gas pipelines.
Floyd was of the Baptist faith. He was a Navy veteran, having served from 1966-1969 in Vietnam. Floyd enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching football.
Preceding Floyd in death were his parents.
Survivors include his wife Pat of Sumner, IL, four sons Kenny Erdmier (Carrie) of Willis, TX, Kevin Mitchell (Veronica) of Humble, TX, Marty Mitchell (Brandi) of Olney, IL, and Tony Mitchell of Sterling, IL; one daughter Mindy Laslie (Kerry Fehrenbacher) of Ingraham, IL; one brother Charlie Mitchell (Deb) of Rock Falls, IL; five sisters Lorraine Wahl (Dave) of Sterling, IL, Patty McKenna (Don) of Milledgeville, IL, Sonya McEvoy (Tim) of Rock Falls, IL, Chyrel Magill (Gary) of Coleta, IL and Jean Ludwick of Rock Falls, IL, 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM Monday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the service hour at 1 PM, Monday, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Lawrenceville City Cemetery with military honors.
