Esther Pauline Black, 93, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at her granddaughter's home, with her family by her side. She was born February 6, 1923 in Sumner, Illinois, the daughter John Wesley and Nellie (Cochran) Schultz. She was married to Michael Bailey and then on March 30, 1959 she married William Howard Black and he preceded her in death on October 3, 1975.
Esther was retired from Johnson Controls. In her later years, she worked at Illusions Bridal for 15 years. She attended Central Christian Church in Lawrenceville, Illinois.
Preceding Esther in death were her parents; her husbands; seven brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Bob) Blackburn of Terre Haute, Indiana; a sister Georgia Dobbs of Sumner, Illinois; three granddaughters, Sandra (Mark) Frey, Cheryl (Keith) Fox, Paula (Brett) Tabor; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sister-in-law's, June Schultz, Mary Schultz, and Pauline Schultz; several nieces and nephews; and lastly, her best friend of 60 years, Veronica Durham.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 17, 12:00 PM CST at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM CST and Friday prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM CST. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Memorial donations in Esther's honor may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, Vincennes Animal Shelter, or Lawrence County Humane Society.
