Rural Lawrenceville resident Emmet X Bunyan died May 31, 2011. Mr. Bunyan was born August 26, 1922 on the family farm west of Lawrenceville to Walter and Marian Hardacre Bunyan. He attended Crossroads Grade School, Lawrenceville High School and graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Agriculture. Emmet served in the U.S. Army during World War II and saw action in Europe as an Army pilot. After the war, he purchased a farm adjacent to the Bunyan family farm and worked as a farmer. He married Margaret Hudson who preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister Patricia Kaufman, a son Jed Bunyan (Mary Ann), a daughter Anne Bucy (Scott), and four grandchildren. Mr. Bunyan was an avid golfer, reader, and a perpetually optimistic Cubs fan. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church north of Bridgeport. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville with burial in Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday morning from 9:30 am until the hour of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church with envelopes available through the funeral home.
