Biography
Elizabeth K. "Betty" Phillips, 67, of Hardinville, IL (formerly of Fairfield, IL) passed away Saturday March 17, 2012 at Newton Rest Haven Nursing Home in Newton, IL.
She was born December 25, 1944 in Olney, IL the daughter of Charles and Ruby (Bell) Griswold Sr. She was a 1963 graduate of Fairfield Community High School and later worked at the telephone company in Olney, IL. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hardinville Church. She was a member of Ladies Home Extension. She served in the 1980's as President of the Ball League in Chauncey, IL. She had also worked at the Oblong Check-Mart and Community Home Health in Fairfield, IL. On March 9, 1968 she married Kenneth Phillips, who survives.
Along with her husband, survivors include two sons: John and wife Brenda Phillips of Newton, IL, Jeff and wife Jody Phillips of Sumner, IL, a daughter: Angie and husband Brent Leffler of Mt. Carmel, IL, three grandchildren: Hannah Phillips, Eric and Tiffany Leffler, three brothers: Charles Griswold Jr. of Fairfield, IL Robert Griswold of Muscle Shoals, AL, Victor Griswold of Newburgh, IN and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30am at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Waggoner Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be given to Newton Rest Haven Nursing Home for equipment, Parkinson's Foundation, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
