Elizabeth Jayne David

Elizabeth Jayne Leighty David died peacefully November 10, 2010 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, IL. (Her husband Charley preceded her in death in 2002.) Jayne was born February 12, 1920 in Lawrence County, Denison Township, south of Lawrenceville, IL. Her parents were Carson and Myrtle (Gher) Leighty.Jayne lived a healthy, active, and wonderful life for 90 years. She and Charley eloped to Henderson, KY and were married April 29, 1939. Returning to Lawrenceville the next day, they went back to their mother and dads home thinking their parents wouldnt know they got married.Jayne worked for the Lawrence County Red Cross. She also worked for the Illinois Department of Public Aid as a caseworker.Jaynes hobbies included the Garden Club, golfing at the Lawrence County Country Club, and Bridge with numerous ladies groups.After retirement, Jayne and Charley enjoyed traveling and spending the winter months in Panama City Beach, FL.Jayne and Charley were married 63 years and are survived by a son Mike and his wife Janet in Olney, IL and a son Roger in Pampa, TX. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charley, two brothers Roger and Bill Leighty, and one great-grandson Jonathan Michael David.Funeral arrangements are being conducted by Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. A visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, November 17th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, and the funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, November 18th at 10:00 am.Memorials in memory of Jayne may be made in Lawrenceville to the Presbyterian Church, Garden Club, or the Lawrence County Country Club.In Olney, memorials may be made to the Richland Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Southeastern Illinois Hospice.
