Eleanor Ruth Biehl (Reed) passed away April 22, 2024 at the age closure of 83 years in Bakersfield, California. Born on January 22, 1941 to John and Helen Reed, Eleanor grew up in Lawrence County, Illinois, and attended Bridgeport High School. Following her graduation in 1958, Eleanor went to work for the FSA/USDA, where she remained until her retirement, only taking time off, as allowed, for her marriage and the care of her family. She was married to Loyde Wesley Biehl on January 21, 1967 and lived in Lawrenceville with her young family until Loyde’s job took them to Bakersfield in 1986.
In both communities, Eleanor was devoted to her faith and spent many happy hours supporting the Lawrenceville Free Methodist Church and the Bakersfield First United Methodist Church. The evidence of her faith was the way she treated family and friends with a spirit of generosity, forgiveness, and love as she spent time talking and listening to those near and far. She also enjoyed reading and going to movies and caring for her grand pets.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Loyde Wesley Biehl; son, Daniel Wesley Biehl; three brothers; one sister, and several in-laws.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Christopher Biehl (Jennifer) of Bakersfield; sister, Dot Carswell; brothers, Morris Reed and Bob Reed; sisters-in-law, Delores Sheldon and Ruth Ann Biehl; along with many nieces and nephews.
A favorite verse from John 14:27 was highlighted in Eleanor’s Bible…Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. Her confidence in God’s care was written in a final note to her son, “As a Christian I know God is taking care of me! Love you!” Eleanor was a loving and caring woman who will be deeply missed by family and friends. Her memory will live on through the impact she made on those around her.
A private burial ceremony will be conducted in Billett, Illinois for the family. A celebration of life will be conducted in Bakersfield in her honor, with details to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bakersfield First United Methodist Church (fumcbakersfield.org), Lawrenceville Free Methodist Church (618-943-2857), KernCountyAnimalServices.org, or CrittersWithoutLitters.org.
