Edna. M. (Buckner) Carlson, 78, of Griffin, IN (formerly of Sumner, IL) passed away Sunday June 14, 2009 at Wabash Christian Center in Carmi, IL.She was born April 2, 1931 in Muskegon, MI the daughter of Francis and Zelta (Brroks) Buckner. On April 15, 1949 she married Elton E. Carlson in Muskegon, MI. They recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary and serving the Christian Ministry together.Edna was a skillful seamstress and for several years operated her own sewing shop, "The Golden Needle" in Sumner, IL. She was a member of the Griffin Christian Church where her husband continues to minister. Her main legacy is one that of who served faithfully as a minister's wife and made their children a priority. She served as a church pianist for 65 years and taught piano lessons to many. She also played organ and violin. She loved teaching Sunday School and Women's Bible Study Groups. She made three short term mission trips to Pakistan and one to Russia.Edna is survived by her husband of 60 years, two daughters: Naomi (Dewey) Nash of Albion, IL, Rebecca (Donald) Dean of Olney, IL, five sons: David (Carol) Carlson of Lansing, MI, Steven (Denise) Carlson of Holt, Mi, Daniel (Carleen) Carlson of Olney, IL, Timothy (Patty) Carlson of Johnson City, TN, Philip (Karla) Carlson of Olney, IL, 7 grandsons, 6 granddaughters, two-great grandchildren, 4step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A brother, sister, and 2 children: Mark and Martha are deceased.The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00am at the Christian Church of Sumner with visitation from 9:00 to the service hour of 11:00am. Burial will be Friday at the Liberty Township Cemetery in Manton, MI at 1:00pm.Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois, The Christian Church of Sumner, Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN, or to Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing, MI.
