Earl Franklin Rushing, age 93, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville. He was born December 18, 1920, in Lawrenceville, the son of Frank and Maude Lee (Eagle) Rushing and was the second of six children. Earl married Mary Elizabeth McDonald on April 27, 1943 and she died March 8, 1991. Mary and Earl had no children, but enjoyed the company of all the nieces and nephews in the family.
Earl was a long-time member of the Wesleyan Church where he served on the church board, was an usher and greeter for many years. Earl also was the custodian of the church and took great pride in keeping everything looking nice. On October 9, 2005, he was presented with a 70-year Attendance Honor by the Wesleyan Church.
Earl was maintenance supervisor for the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1978 and was very dedicated to the hospital. Earl was awarded the Forward Look award with Bette Moore on December 9, 1974.
Earl was a veteran with the United States Army, having served during World War II, and was honorably discharged February 8, 1946. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Earl was blessed with good health and enjoyed a long retirement. Earl was also blessed with a great mother and a great wife, so he had a full life with many friends; he could ask for no more.
Preceding Earl in death were his wife, his parents, one brother James "Skip" Rushing, and one sister Betty Mae Stanker.
Survivors include three sisters, Thelma Worley, Cecil McKeighen and Mary Lee Pinkstaff, all of Lawrenceville, one step-sister Anna Mae Berich, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Lawrenceville City Cemetery with military rites.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Village-North Campus Recreation Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
