Earl William 'Bill' Shaffer

Earl William ‘Bill’ Shaffer, age 92, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Sunday, December 04, 2022 at Aperion Care in Bridgeport, Illinois. He was born on November 22, 1930 in Laquin, Pennsylvania, the son of David K. Shaffer, Sr. and Nettie R. (Carty) Shaffer. He married Barbara Miller on July 09, 1959, and she survives.

Bill served his country in the United States Army, the Air Force, and the 101st Airborne Division of the Army, during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was an electrician, and worked for IBEW Local 1393. Along with his wife, they owned and operated the Shaffer Bait Shop for 44 years. Bill was also the music manager for his son, Rudy. His hobbies included woodworking, fishing, gardening, and making his own tackle and fishing poles. He was a member of the VFW.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, David K. Shaffer, Jr. and Leon Shaffer; and two sons, Donald ‘Dusty’ Shaffer and William ‘Billy’ Shaffer.

Survivors include his wife, Barb; one son, James L. ‘Rudy’ Shaffer and wife, Tina of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one sister, Caroline N. Welch of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Shay Blasdel and husband, David, Kayla Vazquez and husband, Robert, and Brody Shaffer and wife, Liana; and six great-grandchildren, Ayva, Zanovia, Lillian, Eleanor, Lincoln, and Leia.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 07, 2022 at 1:00 PM CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and may be viewed with the following link: https://www.facebook.com/emmonsmaceysteffey . Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery with military rites. Memorial donations may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society.
