Dorothy Jean (Westfall) Mahan, 87, of Western Springs, IL. passed away on Monday October 29,2012 in Hinsdale, IL. She was born in Akron, Ohio on November 5, 1924 to Ralph and Eunice Marie (Ross) Westfall. She was raised in Indianapolis and Vincennes, In. Dorothy met her husband Guy Mahan while attending Vincennes University and they married on June 10, 1956. They lived in Western Springs for over 50 years. Guy preceded her in death on April 4, 2008.
Dorothy received her teaching degree at Vincennes University; she went to Ball State University to earn her Bachelors in teaching and home economics and then attended Cornell University in Cornell, NY. , and received her Master's in teaching and home economics.
She was a member of Christ Church of Oak Brook, Oak Brook, IL since 1970. She was a member of AAUW, and several antique collectors clubs. She and Guy enjoyed collecting antiques and spending their winters together in Naples, FL.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers; Jack, Ralph JR., and Dick Westfall and 1 sister; Lyda Potter.
Dorothy is survived by her children; Margaret (Greg) Grojean of Crystal Lake, IL., Dave (Yasuko) Mahan of Western Springs IL., grandchildren; Matthew (Jessica) Grojean of Lake in the Hills, IL., Alicia Grojean who is a Marine stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and David Grojean of Crystal Lake, IL.
Visitation will be Saturday November 3, 2012 from 9AM until 11AM at the Emmons-Macey& Steffey Funeral home in Lawrenceville, IL.
Funeral Service will be Saturday November 3, 202 at 11AM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.
Burial will follow in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Cancer Society, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
