Dorothy Mae Jones

September 29, 1939 — November 10, 2012

Dorothy Mae (Potts) Jones, nee Tracy, 73 of Lawrenceville, IL passed away at her home on Saturday November 10, 2012 . She had been receiving hospice care for cancer. She was born September 29, 1939 in Robinson, IL to parents Elmo and Gertrude Tracy. She was married to Harry "Vic" Potts and Donald R. Jones, both of whom have preceded her in death. Dorothy had begun working as a late teen at her family owned restaurant and bar, The Indian Tavern. She offered her services on occasion to a number of local bars and private parties. After serving several years at the Lawrenceville Moose Club, she ultimately took up employment with the Lawrenceville Elks Club. The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #1208 enjoyed her service for over 30 years. They honored her service with an appreciation party following her resignation due to illness. Over the years she had enjoyed various levels of membership with the Lawrenceville Chapters of the Elks, Moose, American Legion and the VFW. In addition to her work, Dorothy took pride in being a graduate of the Lawrenceville High School Class of 1957. She was instrumental in assisting the small group of alumni that maintained their class reunions. She was in attendance at their 55th Class Reunion and her birthday on September 29, 2012. Dorothy's greatest source of pride and enjoyment was the raising of her son. During her years of child rearing, full-time employment, and assisting with the class reunions, she somehow found the time to help others in any way she could. She is preceded in death by two husbands, her parents, aunts, uncles, and many friends. She is survived by her son: Michael Potts of Washington, IN, brother: Charles Tracy of Lawrenceville, IL, three nieces, four nephews, two step-daughters, four step-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a second family of friends too numerous to mention by name. The funeral will be Saturday November 17, 2012 at 10:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 until 7:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the Lawrence County Humane Society.
