Donald 'Don' Smith

Donald O. Smith, age 77, of rural Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016, at his residence.  He was born August 18, 1938 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Chester C. Smith Sr. and Anna Pearl Devin Smith. He married Carole Sue Akers on June 24, 1958, and she survives. Don retired from Briggs Pottery in Robinson, Illinois, after 35 years of employment.  He enjoyed riding four-wheelers, hunting, and working on his tractors.  He enjoyed spending time with his feline companion "Stinky". Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Kenny Devin; one sister, Gloria Mayfield; and a great-grandchild, Damien Ruppel. Survivors include his wife Carole Sue; two sons, David and wife Lisa Smith of Robinson, Illinois and Mike and wife Penny Smith of rural Lawrenceville, Illinois; two brothers, Chester and wife Ellen Smith Jr. of rural Flat Rock, Illinois and Jan Smith of Bloomington, Indiana; one sister, Karen Armstrong of rural Flat Rock, Illinois; four grandchildren, Leslie Ann Ruppel, Angela Mae Smith, Kimberley Marie Smith, Donna Sue Smith; and six great-grandchildren. Private services and burial will be conducted.  Memorial donations in Don's memory may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society or the Robinson Humane Society.
