Donald Ray Gay, 85, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014. He was born December 28, 1928, in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the son of Kenneth and Ruby E. (Mills) Gay. He married Winnie Hopkins on December 28, 1957, and she survives.
Don was of the United Methodist faith. He was a Veteran with the United States Army.
Don worked in the oilfield for many years. He was Club Manager for the American Legion where he enjoyed being with his patrons. Some of Don's favorite pastimes included watching sports like football and basketball. He was also an avid racing fan. Most of all, Don enjoyed spending time with his family. His memberships include American Legion and VFW.
Preceding Don in death were his parents, one step-daughter Linda Archer and one sister Pat Schlanker.
Survivors include his wife Winnie of Lawrenceville, three sons, Eric W. Gay of Lawrenceville, Tracy R. Gay (Amy) of Vincennes, Indiana and Damon B. Gay (Loraine) of New Iberia, Louisiana; six grandchildren Devon Gay, Jacob Gay, Mason Gay Daniel Gay, Amy VanHook (David), Beth Livingston (Jeff); and four great-grandchildren Michael VanHook, Natlie VanHook, Lauren Livingston and William Livingston.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in Lawrenceville City Cemetery with military rites by American Legion and VFW.
There is no visitation.
Memorials can be made to the American Legion or Good Samaritan Hospice with envelopes available through the funeral home.
