Donald L. "Don" Dobbs, age 80, of Sumner, Illinois, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born January 12, 1935, in Rinard, Illinois, the son of Lowell and Zelma (Zimmerman) Dobbs. He married Georgia Schultz on October 7, 1955.
Don worked as a truck driver for Sumner Grain for 30+ years and as a janitor for First National Bank in Sumner. He was a volunteer fire fighter for 28 years with Christy Township Fire Protection District. Don enjoyed eating snack cakes and playing scratch-off lottery tickets. He enjoyed fixing holiday meals, especially peeling potatoes.
Preceding Don in death were his parents, one brother Bernard Dobbs, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Dobbs, of Sumner; a son, Daniel (Sharon) Dobbs of Sumner; five daughters, Debbie (James) Coulter of Sumner; Teresa (Bill) Gerber of Bridgeport; Trudy (Brian) Duncan of Sumner, Sandy (Tony) Clark of Sumner, and Shawn Dobbs (Paul Lopez) of Sumner; two brothers Charles Dobbs of Rockton, Illinois, and Hubert (Dorothy) Dobbs of Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren, Dustin Emmons, Jonathan Dobbs, Crystal Dobbs, Chelsea Emmons, Harley Clark, Robert Dobbs, Robin Dobbs, Mykala Duncan, Mitchell Duncan, C.J. Carter, and Tarron Clark and eight great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Don's wishes were to be cremated. The family is asking that you gather with them for a time of remembrance from 4-6 PM Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner.
