Donald 'Dee' L. Diggs

Donald L. "Dee" Diggs, Jr., age 63, of rural Lawrenceville, IL, passed away Monday, October 29, 2012, in Bridgeport. Born December 6, 1948, in Vincennes, IN, he was the son of Donald Lewis Diggs, Sr. and Twilla (Jones) Melvin. He was raised by his grandparents, William and Catherine Jones. He married Sandra "Sandy" Ernst on June 19, 1971, in Bridgeport, IL. Dee was the Vice President of Human Resources and Administration at Rucker's Candy. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force and two terms on the Unit #20 School Board. Memberships include First Presbyterian Church, Lawrenceville Country Club, Elks, Moose, and Society of Human Resource Management. Dee was an avid cyclist and enjoyed playing golf. He was also known for his storytelling and sharing laughter with friends, but most of all, he enjoyed just being with family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Sandy, one son Gannon Diggs of Lexington, KY, one daughter Allison Cunningham (Jim) of Chesterfield, MO, one brother Michael Diggs, one sister Cathy Morris (Allen), a brother-in-law Randy (Angie) Ernst of Katy, TX, three grandchildren Brendan and Grace Cunningham of Chesterfield, MO and Allie Diggs of Lexington, KY, one nephew Nathan (Ana) Ernst of Chicago, IL and one niece Cameron (David) Hernandez of Spring, TX. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 6:00 PM Friday, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville. Friends may call from 4 PM till the hour of service at 6 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, Impact a Hero, The Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois or a Charity of the Donor's Choice.
